Bird Suet Feeder
This is Vince's recipe which we
use year round as the flour keeps the suet from melting and running.
We feed in commercially available suet feeders by reusing the
plastic containers that the suet comes in. The cayenne pepper is to keep
the squirrels from eating this bird treat.
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup suet or lard
2 cups quick oats
2 cups corn meal
1 cup wild bird seed
1 cup cornmeal
1cup flour
1 Tbsp cayenne pepper
Melt lard and peanut butter over low heat
Stir in other ingredients. If it seems runny add a little more
flour, if it is too stiff add some lard. If it is difficult to
stir, like a heavy cookie dough, it is probably the right consistency.
Fill 3 or 4 suet trays with the mixture and press tight. Let the tray cool
for an hour or so before use. Wrapped in plastic and placed in the
freezer they keep well.
