Summertime Lemonade
After trying Martha Stewart's lemonade recipe, I went to mom's Woman's Home Companion
Cook Book from the '40's.
She would make this for my dad when he got home from work on really hot days.
The old recipe book helps me with all sorts of house keeping things such as table
settings.
The introduction in the Woman's Home Companion was advice for the war effort. "We
must serve our families nutritious meals even though we might not have rations of sugar
and meat. A healthy nation is the best contribution our homes can make to our war
effort."
This brings back wonderful memories of my family back in the 50's and I serve this
lemonade to my B&B guests.
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar
Rinds of 2 Lemons, cut up
1 Cup lemon juice (about 4 or 5 lemons squeezed)
Boil the water sugar and rinds for 7 minutes, then cool.
Add Juice and 4 cups of cold water.
Pour over plenty of ice in tall glasses and garnish with a slice of lemon or a sprig of
mint.
